Female Mallard, Anas platyrhynchos seen in one of the many water features on the grounds at Drottningholm Palace, the official home of the Swedish royal family since 1981. Visit my vacation blog for more information and images of our visit to Drottningholm.
A few days and miles away from the female above, this Male Mallard was enjoying a pond at Gammlia, an outdoor park in Umeå. I'll be posting about our visit to Umeå on my vacation blog at some point.
I'll be posting this to World Bird Wednesday later on and would appreciate feedback on whether or not I should combine my vacation blog and photography blog into one blog? One of my readers suggested that idea to me and I'm definitely open to doing that since I cannot figure out how to do BIG pictures on my vacation blog. (Of course, BIG pictures don't scale for mobile devices and I'm totally inept at figuring out how to code my blog to downsize the images for mobile devices... keep hoping Google/blogspot will do it for me!) And while I'm open to combining my blogs, it will take some thought to figure out how to do it properly and not lose anything! (may have to call on a tech geek in the form of my brilliant nephew Dan for assistance should I go forward with the idea)

These are really beautiful photos - such detail in both.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots, Tory! The one of the hen is just gorgeous! I wonder what "quack" sounds like in Swedish!
ReplyDeleteWe see them all over the Netherlands, too, Victoria. Such beautiful ducks. I never tire of them.
ReplyDeleteTo combine your blogs or not? Hmmm. I´ll have to think about that one.... Each one has its own value on its own, like my two. Hmmm.
Hi, glad you liked your stay in Sweden. And, yes, we have a lot of mallards.
ReplyDeleteI don´t know if you shall combine your blogs. It depends on how much you travel. I would not. But I have tooo much blogs as I have spieces blogs as well. I have to keep it separeted or I would have no clue of what I am doing. I have a travel blog too and there is where I put the story of every trip.
Personaly I am not found of too big shots in the blogs. When I opened your blog I only saw half of the image and thought you were a lousy photographer. Then I realised I had to enlarge the window to see it all. If my screen had been smaller I would not be able to see the picture without scrolling. My photos is 700 pix wide. And you can enlarge them one time. For blogs that is enough I think. At least the risk for theft is smaller. If you want to showcase large images I would suggest a portfolio where you can lock the photos. I think that is possible.
Good luck.
Lovely shots Victoria. They're often overlooked because they are common, but the males are quite colourful, and the females have beautiful markings.
ReplyDeleteNice photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds and nice photos!
ReplyDeleteThis is the bird that all children get to feed first... Mallards are wonderful as are your lovely images.
ReplyDeleteSo close! They must be use to people? Very nice shots.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots of the Mallards! It is nice to knwo they are doing well.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that Mallards were world-wide birds. Excellent captures!
ReplyDeleteExcellent images Victoria! Good luck on your blogging decisions. How anyone has time for more than one blog stupefies me!

Nice shots of the Mallards! The male is so colorful, but I love the detail shown in the feathers of the female!
ReplyDeleteGreat close ups!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully captured, Victoria. I am surprised you still get spam like this. I thought Google had pretty much weeded spam out with their filter. I haven't used any type of verification on my blog and and it's been at least a year since I saw any spam at all.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!

Thanks for your thoughtful comments on my blog, Victoria, and thanks for signing up as follower. I know what you mean having too much equipment to lug around. I bought a Black Rapid strap which at least leaves my hands free, and I haven't taken a tripod along since I invested in vibration reduction lenses. Like you I love doing photography and having the right equipment makes it so much easier.
